Who We Are

We believe in stories…(mostly factual ones)!

Established in 2008, Marmalade Films is an award-winning independent production company with an international outlook. We focus on high-quality, creative, character-driven story telling for Irish and international audiences and pride ourselves on telling stories from the inside looking out.

Marmalade Films has grown to become a Grierson shortlisted, IFTA and Prix Europa nominated and prestigious Radharc Award winning production company with more than 15 years of high quality production experience. We have produced award-winning documentaries, documentary series, shorts and features working with broadcasters and funder in Ireland and internationally.

Our award-winning documentaries have been sold and broadcast internationally and have screened at major film festivals world-wide including Tribeca, DIFF and AFI Docs. Most recently we’re bringing our award-winning experience to fiction production, developing scripted drama projects as well as children’s content.

Marmalade Films also has recgonised experience producing a wide range of high quality branded content, commercials, bespoke web content and eLearning & training tools for our diverse portfolio of blue-chip clients and creative agencies.

Tanya Doyle

Creative Director | Director/Producer

Hailed by the Irish Times as a "chronicler of the ordinary" Dublin born Director Tanya Doyle established her credentials as an award winning documentary filmmaker in 2004 when she won the Prince Philip Medal of Excellence for her first film ‘Moore Street’, a documentary short exploring how a living monument to traditional Dublin facilitated the amalgamation of cultures in the ‘new Ireland’. Tanya has pursued her insightful interest in social documentary filmmaking ever since.

Tanya‘s first feature documentary "The House", her directorial debut for television, is a gripping, autobiographical account of her family’s experience growing up in West Dublin and examines the ideas of home, change, progression and shared experiences through a family dealing with loss and alcoholism.

Following the success of The House Tanya directed the documentary series Bia Dúchais, a six part series on the history or Irish food. The series has been heralded as “insightful, original and innovative”. Tanya’s recent multi-award winning creative documentary Waterlilies, a meditation on identity and wisdom, premiered at the Guth Gafa International Documentary Festival, 2014 and had it’s US Premiere at AFI Docs, Washington, 2015.

Tanya holds a BA in Accounting & Human Resource Management, an MA in Film & Television from DCU and an MA in Screen Documentary from Goldsmiths, University of London. She honed her skills and visual style in the Production and Camera departments of many prestigious productions including ‘Learning Gravity’, ‘Bachelors Walk’ and the multi-award winning ‘Once’.

In conjunction with her filmmaking Tanya shares her knowledge and experience through her position as Head of the Film & Television Department of Griffith College Dublin’s Faculty of Journalism & Media Communications.

Tanya continues to build on the growing acclaim for her work through Marmalade Films and is currently in development with her latest documentary project.

Daniel Hegarty

Senior Producer | Producer/Director

A recovering Engineer and native of Dublin Daniel is a confessed Technophile who began editing and producing for radio while studying Mechanical Engineering at University College Dublin.

A native of Dublin, Daniel has built a broad portfolio of experience in production and post-production on commercials, promos, short docs, TV single docs, TV series and feature length documentaries working with a range of directors and production companies in Ireland and internationally. Daniel established his creative partnership with director Tanya Doyle in 2009, producing her first award-winning 1-hour television documentary, The House. It won the Radharc Award in 2010 and was nominated for an IFTA for Best Documentary and the Prix Europa for European Documentary.
After the success of The House, Daniel wrote and produced the landmark documentary series Bia Dúchais, a six- part series on the history or Irish food, produced for the Irish broadcaster TG4 with funding from the Broadcast Authority of Ireland followed by Waterlilies, a meditation on identity and wisdom, which premiered at the Guth Gafa International Documentary Festival, won the Audience Choice Award at the Dingle International Film Festival and had it’s US Premiere at AFI Docs, Washington. In 2017 & ‘18 Daniel produced the Screen Ireland, Real Short Hey Ronnie Reagan, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and the gritty observational, female sports documentary True Blues.

Most recently Daniel was a producer on the environmental, true crime Sky Documentaries series The Great Rhino Robbery and has produced the observational feature doc Eat / Sleep / Cheer / Repeat which premiered at the 2024 Dublin International Film Festival and was release in cinemas across the island of Ireland in May 2024.

Daniel is a member of the Factual & Entertainment Committee of Screen Producers Ireland and a graduate of the EAVE Producer’s Programme, 2021. As well as producing short and long form documentaries, Daniel produces and directs commercials for a range of clients and advertising agencies in Ireland. Daniel believes passionately in film making as a creative collaboration. In 2020 Daniel established the Dublin International Screenwriting Festival with writer colleague Gavin Ryan, to provide opportunities for screenwriters and producers to connect and make great work together. As Managing Producer at Marmalade Films, Daniel drives Marmalade’s core focus: creative, character driven storytelling.

Sinéad Ní Bhroin

Head of Development | Producer

An award-winning Producer, Sinead’s 12 years of production experience spans Documentary, Drama, Film and TV, working on projects such as The Rhythm Section, Into The Badlands, Sing Street and The Last Hijack before she came to Marmalade.

Now Head of Development with Marmalade Films, Sinead worked previously in Development for Still Films (Seaview, Build Something Modern, Pyjama Girls) and as Head of Production of Red Shoe Productions.

For 6 years Sinead ran Darklight Festival, Ireland’s premier festival for independent and emerging filmmakers and artists.

Sinead heads up our development team managing the development of Marmalade’s documentary, factual, scripted and non-scripted projects.

Sinéad is an MA graduate of Film and TV Production, DCU and a BA graduate in English and History from NUI, Maynooth.
